Storm damage and insurance claims

Hail and wind can damage a roof without leaving anything you can see from the ground. We inspect for free, document the damage, and work alongside your insurance company from the first inspection to the finished roof.

What to look for

Not all storm damage is obvious

Hail

Bruised shingles

Hail knocks granules loose and bruises shingles, which ages them faster and leads to leaks months later. Inspectors circle each hit in chalk and count them inside a 10 × 10 ft test square.

Wind

Creased and missing shingles

High winds break the seal under shingles, crease them and tear them off, leaving nails and underlayment exposed to rain and sun.

Water

Hidden leaks

Once water gets under a damaged shingle, it runs along the decking and rafters, rotting wood and causing mold. The stain is often far from where the leak starts.

Debris

Impact damage

Falling limbs puncture and crack shingles and scrub off granules. Small damage becomes big damage in the next storm.

From our inspections

Every photo here comes from one of our own inspections. We mark each hit in chalk so it shows up in photos and your adjuster can see it clearly.

The process

How an insurance claim works with us

  1. Free inspection

We inspect the roof, gutters, siding and soft metals and photograph every sign of damage.

  2. An honest answer

If the damage isn't worth a claim, we tell you. A claim should only be filed when it makes sense for you.

  3. You file the claim

You open the claim with your insurance company. We give you our photo report and explain what to expect.

  4. Adjuster meeting

We meet your adjuster at your home, walk the roof together and point out the damage we documented.

  5. Your new roof

Once approved, we schedule your install. You pay your deductible, and we provide the invoices and completion photos your insurance company needs.

Lifetime Roofing is your roofing contractor, not a public adjuster. You file the claim with your insurance company; we provide the inspection, documentation, adjuster meeting and roofing work. We work with all major insurance companies, including State Farm, Allstate and Liberty Mutual.

Don't wait

Storm claims have deadlines

Most homeowners policies set a time limit for reporting storm damage, and hidden damage gets worse with every rain. If a hail or wind storm came through your neighborhood, get your roof looked at soon, even if it looks fine from the driveway.

  • Free inspection, no obligation
  • Photo report you can keep
  • Upgrades available: move up to a Class 4 shingle for the difference in cost

Questions

Insurance questions

Will filing a claim raise my rates?

That depends on your insurance company and policy, and your agent is the best person to ask. Storm claims are generally treated differently from claims caused by neglect, but we can't promise what your insurer will do.

What if my claim is denied?

We'll go over the adjuster's report with you. Sometimes a re-inspection is appropriate; sometimes the damage simply isn't there. If a repair or replacement still makes sense, we'll give you a regular estimate and financing options.

Do I have to use the contractor my insurance company suggests?

No. You choose who works on your home.

Is storm damage covered by your workmanship warranty?

No. Our 5-year workmanship warranty covers our installation. Damage from hail, wind or fallen trees is an insurance matter.
